You have to give before you can get

Let me start with a quote...

“A business absolutely devoted to service will have only one worry about profits. They will be embarrassingly large.”

- Henry Ford


This is an older quote but the truth behind these words is still very valid today... The key to making a lot of money in this world is to be devoted to service. You have to put in your brain the idea that wealth is made by being of service to others. Not just any kind of service either. You really need to over-deliver all the time to delight your customers, readers, patients, etc...


I learned that in my Introduction to Marketing class... Basically, before you can get any money from people, you need to offer something of value to people. People won't just give you money for no reason... They need to gain something from you first. Take the first step and serve your potential customers with great care. Don't take them for granted...


If you devote yourself to your customers, they will take notice and they'll give you their loyalty. The same is true with your readers if you are a writer... if you pay attention to their needs and give value over and over, they will in turn want to do business with you. This is the key to earning money in this world.


One approach to providing value to others so they in turn give you financial rewards is to find a need that is not being filled now. This is basic Marketing 101 here... The need could be serviced by another person or business already but there needs to be more demand than there is supply now. In other words, don't open a coffee shop on your street if there are already a dozen coffee shops side-by-side. Look for a hole and fill it! You need to be of service to people who need help. That's the key to marketing and to business in general...


If you're not a writer here on InfoBarrel, skip this paragraph. If you are a writer here on InfoBarrel, think about it this way. It's like keyword research. First you're looking for something that's being demanded in the marketplace... like a keyphrase that's being searched for many times every single month... Then, you have to analyze your competition. You check out how many competing pages there are for that keyphrase for example. If there are already billions of pages for ... I don't know - let's say for Rolex watches, don't write an article about Rolex watches! It's already saturated... Well, if you work hard, the truth is you could still fight your way up the rankings and earn your spot in the search results... But a better approach would be to find a need that isn't being met and to fill it. In other words, low competition highly searched key phrases...


Although service is one of the most important keys to success in business or anything else in life actually... it's not the only thing. I'm a business student and I've learned that one of the most important skills of any entrepreneur or any human being for that matter is the ability to sell. You have to learn how to make sales. No matter what you are doing in life, you're selling yourself and you're selling your ideas. You need to learn how to influence people and how to persuade others... At the end of the day, if a business is not making any sales, it's not a business.
