By | Jul 12, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Do you want to feel less stressed? Meditate.
Do you want to be healthier? Meditate.
Do you want to be able to focus better on a task at hand? Meditate.

I could go on. The benefits of meditating are almost endless.
More and more people are starting to enjoy regular meditation sessions, more and more books are written on the subject and it seems everyone got different ways of doing it.

Many people are fazed by the thought of learning how to meditate, but it doesn't have to be.

By using this little guide below, you can start to enjoy meditation and its benefits straight away.

Action steps:

1. Are you alone? Yes? Good. Trying to meditate with screaming and crying toddlers in the room is not the best idea.

2. Find a place where you can sit comfortably. Try a putting a pillow on the floor and sitting down on it or try and sit comfortably on your bed, which brings me into next point.

3. Don't make yourself too comfortable. That's the danger of sitting on a spot like on your bed, when you later close your eyes and try to become relaxed, it's easily happened that you fall asleep.

4. A common misconception is that you have to sit in the lotus position while meditating. Any position that you find comfortable is absolutely fine.

5. Do you have to meditate in complete silence? No, not really, but it can certainly help while you're still learning how to meditate.

6. Next thing to do is to close your eyes.

7. Now it's time to start focusing on your breathing.

8. Start to take slow, deep breaths. Focus on the breaths that you take.

9. Just keep focusing on your breathing. If any other thoughts pops up in your head, go back to focusing on your breathing.

10. When other thoughts pop up in your head, which they will, don't beat yourself up. Just go back to focusing on your breathing.

That's it, meditating is not more difficult than that.

Commit to meditate on a regular basis, like once a day. It will become a stronger and more ingrained habit the more you do it and after some time, you will start to notice the benefits.

If you find it hard, practice makes perfect, even with meditation. Don't worry, it will become easier.

Now go sit down on that pillow.

Good luck.
