The stock market is a confusing thing to many beginners. We all hear about it and many of us have money invested in it through our company IRA's. In fact, many of us have lost a lot of money in the stock market the last couple of years because our retirement accounts have been invested in stocks.

Most people don't buy individual stocks for themselves. This is because buying stocks for the first time is something that takes some study and discipline. The way people usually invest in stocks is through mutual funds that are targeted towards a certain industry or have a certain investing goal in mind. Things You Will Need

If you are setting out to learn how to buy individual stocks online, you might discover that it is quite easy. Opening up an account and giving all your personal information is not much different than any other type of account you might open online.

First you need to choose an online broker. Most of them are very similar so you might make the choice based on trading prices. You then need to give all your personal information including your Social Security number as the broker is required by law to notify the IRS of all your sales.

After filling out all your personal details, all that is left is to put money in the account. That can be done by sending in a personal check or by having money wired in. If your online broker is one of the bigger ones, they might have a local office in your city where you can hand deliver a personal check if you so choose.
