How To Prevent A Cold

There's no such thing as a good time to catch a cold, and of course we've all heard that old saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." But what do you do if your ounce of prevention didn't work?

If you already have a full blown cold, then this remedy won't do you much good; but if you wake up one morning and you can feel the symptoms of a cold starting to come after you, then this natural trick can be great way to prevent a cold before you end up laying in bed feeling miserable. In fact, I've personally used this method before, and I can attest to its potency. Here's what you do:

As soon as you feel the symptoms of a cold coming on, you make what I call a stoplight cocktail. Why do I call it a stoplight cocktail? Because of the three main ingredients.

The Stoplight Cocktail

Start by pouring about one tablespoon of honey into a coffee mug. You can use more if you really like honey, it won't hurt. This is the Yellow ingredient.
Second, add about one teaspoon of cinnamon to your coffee mug. This is the Red ingredient.
Now boil a small pot of green tea. It doesn't matter what type of green tea you use, it can be decaf, fully caffeinated, flavored or whatever you prefer. (Last time I did this I used an orange/citrus flavored green tea.) This is the Green ingredient.

Pour the tea over the cinnamon and honey while stirring everything together. You may want to let it sit for a few minutes so it can cool off, but be sure to stir everything each time before you take a sip. Cinnamon is not water soluble, so if you let it sit then it will all settle to the bottom of the cup and you won't end up drinking any of it.

If you make this stoplight cocktail as soon as you feel symptoms, a second time right before bed, and once more the next morning, then you should be able to prevent a nasty cold, or at the very least, drastically reduce the severity of your cold. Every time that I have done this I avoided a cold completely.

Now as a disclaimer let me mention that this, like most home remedies, probably won't work if you fail to use common sense throughout the process. If you drink a stoplight cocktail and then go out for a night of drinking on the town because you thought all was clear then you will negate the healing effects of the drink. Home remedies like this one work in conjunction with normal lifestyles, not in spite of them.
