You can either bring your child or your wife with you or some other person when travelling. Having someone as a passenger will let you have a conversation with the person during the long trip. Talking on different topics will get you preoccupied with the conversation and will prevent you from getting drowsy.
3) Munch some junk foods or candies
Munching candy or eating some junk food will help you stay awake while driving on the road because you will be preoccupied with the munching and chewing of the food that you are eating. However, be warned that you don't do this excessively as you might lose your focus in driving on the road.
4) Schedule a break in your driving

Perhaps you should take a quick nap after an hour of driving or every after 100 miles of road travelled. All you have to do is park by the side of the road, turn on your hazard lights and take a quick nap of about 15 or 20 minutes.
5) Drink coffee or a caffeinated drink
Drinking coffee before driving for long hours is an effective way to prevent drowsiness while driving. An alternative to this is by drinking caffeinated drinks on occassion while driving. The caffeine mixed with the drink helps you become alert and maintain focus while driving.
