How To Redo Your Room

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

Need some ways to spice up your room? Well, here’s a great guide to help for an inexpensive price.  All 5 of these ttips will help to make your room look like it came out of a magazine!

15 dollars or under posters
1. Try to think of your favorite bands, singers, actress’, and find pictures of them on the Internet. It could be Emma Watson, Justin Beiber, Taylor Swift, or even My Chemical Romance. Find either one giant picture, or a collection of pictures, and put them onto a word document. Try to make it look like a collage, but neater.  Change the sizes, crop out pieces you don’t like, add a text box and add words or the name of you collage. Then print it out and put it in a picture frame. You could also put it onto a flash drive, take it to Costco, and have them blow it up. I’ve done this with my favorite singers, bands, and even my favorite soccer team. I’ve also done a few of the Eiffel Tower and the Big Ben Tower. Putting these in chic black or silver frames will make you room even classier. This project will be pretty cheap. The pictures are free. All you have to pay for is blowing them up, (Maybe 8 bucks per picture.) A picture frame will run anywhere from 4-10 dollars at Wal-Mart.

25-dollar memory board
2. Have you ever seen memory boards? Well, if so, rather than buying one, why don’t you just make one? Here is how you do it. All you need are…
A board to hold everything (either plywood, cork board, art canvas, any piece of wood really.) Make sure it is at least15X15 inches.
Quilt Batting
Fabric
Ribbon
Stapler (normal or staple gun)
Decorations for embellishment: buttons, flowers, gems

The first thing you need to do is lay the quilt batting, which is like cotton to make the board softer, on the board. Then lay the fabric you selected over, and staple or use a hot glue gun, a secure it. Make sure you wrap the entire front side, and secure it on the back. Make sure you like the fabric and it matches your room color scheme. After you have finished this, it is time you place your ribbon. Again, try to pick a color that will work with the fabric and colors around your room. If you really want a burst of color, it needs to be in the accessories. For you ribbon, make an ‘X’ on the back of the board. These will help you. Now turn the board back over and make smaller ‘X’s’. Whenever 2 ribbons meet, is where you will put a button, or other embellishment. This may seem hard at first, but once you begin to do, you’ll get the hang of it. Have fun with this project. Once you’re done with it, fill it with pictures and other mementos. This will really brighten up your room! Overall, this entire project will be around 20-30 dollars worth. Maybe even cheaper. It just depends on where you buy your materials.

Basically Free!
3. Another inexpensive idea for you room is to move the furniture around. Move your bed, your table. If you have a bedside table, ask your parents if you can paint it a different color to match your room. If you have old furniture lying around in your attic, basement, or garage, ask your parents if you can sand it down and paint it as well. It is both fun and inexpensive! Don’t overflow your room with to much furniture. Remember, a little is a lot. Just fill in the negative space. Add an area rug. You can buy these at Wal-Mart or Target for 20 bucks!

Floating shelf and some inspiration
4. Another way to add furniture is to pick up a slab of wood from Home Depot, and paint it. Then, ask your parents for help, and nail it to the wall. This will act like a floating shelf. It will give you more space and it is a neat way to display pots you made in ceramics or trophies you won for sports and stuff. I really like this. It really dos change the dimensions of your room. While you are at Home Depot, see if you can pick up wooden letter to paint. If there are none there, run over to Michaels. Each letter ranges from 3 to 6 dollars. Spell out inspiring words like dream, love, hope, or your name. Painting them a bold black, (you know, because black goes with everything,) and hanging them on your wall will look very chic. This project will cost anywhere from 25 to 45 dollars. It may be a little pricier than you had wanted, but it is defiantly worth it.

15 dollars for a little light
5. One last way to help your room is to get some light. If you have a window, make sure you keep the shades open during the daytime to bring in as much natural light as you can. When it gets darker outside, use a lamp. One of my favorite projects is decorating lamps. What I do is buy a cheap 8-dollar lamp from Wal-Mart or TJ Maxx. I want to make sure the lampshade is blank, so I can add my own details. Using the left over materials from the memory board, wrap a ribbon around the bottom and top of the shade. Add buttons to add personality. This will make the lamp look custom made, and a lot more expensive than it really was. This overall project will cost about 12 to 15 dollars if you include the small amount of materials.  This is a great way to make your room really stand out, and it doesn't take much money to do so.

If you follow these steps, you can make your room look brand new. Hopefully you can use some of the tips mentioned in this article, and are able to spice up your room, without spending too much money!
