How To Remove Rust Stains From Clothes
Rust stains can develop on clothes from the iron content in the water you use to wash your clothing. If your water has a high iron content over the course of time the iron will become imbedded into the clothing fibers and cause small brownish red stains. Rust stains can also come from embellishments on your clothing such as decorative buttons or rivets or if something rusty was laying on top of your clothing, the rust will transfer as a stain. These stains can be very difficult to remove. Many stain removers available in stores just don't do the job. Stain removers for specific stains can also be very expensive. Here is a money saving, natural, effective way to remove rust stains from clothing.
Things You Will Need
lemon
salt
clean white rag
Step 1
Place a white, clean, dry rag under the rust stained area. Fold the rag so it is fairly thick and will be absorbent.
Step 2
Cut a fresh lemon in half.
Step 3
Rub the rust stain with the half of a lemon. While rubbing the rust stain with the lemon, squeeze the lemon so the lemon juice soaks into the stain.
Step 4
Generously pour salt over the lemon juice soaked rust stain. The layer of salt should be about 1/4 of an inch thick.
Step 5
Allow the lemon juice to dry completely.
Step 6
Brush off the excess salt.
Step 7
Wash as usual.
The rust stain on your clothing will be gone. This method is an environmentally safe and effective way to remove rust stains. This is also a great money saver. There really is no need to buy expensive commercially made rust removal products when this does the job as well as or better than ones that can be purchased at stores.
