How To Save Money On Moving Supplies

By | 2 Comments | Rating: 1 | |

A successful move requires preparation and having the proper moving supplies is a must. The basic moving supplies for moving furniture include packing paper, styrofoam, plastic bubble wrap, moving blankets, boxes and tape. If you have a lot of furniture then buying all of these items can cost a lot of money even if you buy them in bulk. Spending a few hundred dollars is a possibility but there are ways you can save money.

You can substitute moving paper with newspaper. They both use the same material. The only difference is that newspaper is printed. You can get many newspapers from newsstands and from grocery and candy stores that sell newspapers and magazines. The best day to collect them would be on a sunday because this is when the sunday editions come out. These are the thickest newspapers and stores usually have many extra ones that they through out. Talk to a store manager near you and I am sure they will be more than accommodating. Stores are only required to return the cover sheet of the newspapers that they did not sell. They throw out the rest. You can also substitute new moving blankets with used moving blankets. These are usually available online or at moving companies. Look up several moving companies in the phone book and ask them if they have used moving blankets that they want to get rid of. Usually they will be more than happy to sell them for a small price.

You can also substitute new moving boxes by ordinary boxes. Such moving boxes can be found in small supermarkets. Supermarkets have no need for them whatsoever and have no problem if someone takes them. Ask the manager if you can have those boxes and ask him or her when would be the best time to come by. You can also save money by using newspapers in instead of styrofoam. Simply roll up the newspapers and use them in the same manner that you would have used styrofoam. There isn't a substitute for tape but you can save money if you buy them in bulk. You can save a lot of money if you really want to. Ask the shop owners very politely for these things. It would be a great idea if you asked a store that you frequented as they try to help their regulars in any way they can.

If you have the luxury of planning for your move, collect boxes from stores you shop in and as you purchase items, save their boxes. It will help you save money, later.
