How To Set Goals The Smart Way

By Edited Aug 16, 2016 1 1

Every successful business, athlete and entrepreneur use goal setting in order to attain specific objectives. They know exactly how to set goals and why goals are so important. With goals, you know exactly where you are going and what you are working towards. But without them, you’re not exactly sure where you are going or where you will end up. In order to set and achieve your goals there are certain guidelines you can follow to make the goal setting process more clear and powerful. Let’s explore the S.M.A.R.T. way to goal setting...

Specific - You goal must be as specific as possible. “When I am older I’m going to be a millionaire” is not as specific as “by January 1, 2015, I will have one million dollars in my bank-account”. When you are as specific as possible you give your brain the exact instructions and it will slowly begin to work towards the achievement of your goal.

Measurable - Your goal must also be measurable. When you start to work toward your goal you need different kinds of milestones. If your goal is not measurable you don’t know whether you are making progress toward it’s completion or not. Milestones make your goal measurable and you know when you have achieved it.

Attainable. - It is important that your goal is attainable and realistic. A goal should stretch and pull you in order to achieve it, meaning that it’s not completely out of reach or to easy to accomplish in the first place. When you goal is attainable, realistic and really stretching you, you start to come up with ideas and figure out ways on how to accomplish it. And goals that one day were unrealistic are now realistic.

Relevant. - The goal you want to achieve must be relevant to what you want to accomplish. If you want to loose weight, a goal that is either based on your diet or work out is pretty relevant. Ask your self these questions “is this the right time to work towards this goal?” and “does this seem worthwhile?”. If you your answers are “yes” to these questions, they are relevant for you.

Time-bound. Your goal must have and end date or a deadline. A deadline will push you to accomplish your goal much faster than you would have without it. Because when you are really committed to a deadline you focus all your effort to accomplish it before the time is up. Maybe you have to sacrifice a few hours from your sleeping time, but accomplishing that goal will definitely make it worth it.

Write down you goals every morning on a piece of paper so that your subconscious mind can begin to work work towards them. And consciously start figuring out what steps you can take during the day that will take you closer to the completion of those goals. Follow these guidelines and use the smart way and watch you goals and dreams become reality.
