Improving the quality of their sleep is something that's important to many people. But according to one study one out of 10 Americans have sleeping problems. Sleep is one of the most basic human needs, and a lack of sleep will soon lead to health problems some of which could even be quite serious like cancer, obesity, heart attack and stroke. This article on how to sleep better at night goes over several different natural ways that you can improve the quality of your sleep.

Things You Will Need

white noise

Step 1

Develop a bedtime routine such as taking a warm bath or meditating, and make sure that you follow it every night. People are creatures of habit and a bedtime routine can be a comforting way to end the day.

Step 2

Make sure that you go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even on weekends.

Step 3

Try to reduce any stress that you might be under by taking up yoga, or using deep breathing techniques. Daytime stress has a way of coming back to haunt you at night after you're relaxed and trying to sleep.

Step 4

Fall asleep to the sound of white noise, such as from a fan or maybe the soothing sound of a tabletop fountain.

Step 5

Try Listening to a hypnosis tape for sleeping problems, this will put you to sleep every time. You can find a download off the internet for about 12.99

Step 6

Sip on a soothing hot cup of herbal tea, such as chamomile, jasmine or peppermint. All of which are effective sleep aids.

Step 7

For those nights that you just can't get to sleep, try taking a natural sleep aid such as kava kava or valerian root.

Step 8

If you're still having problems it might be a good idea to see your doctor as you might be suffering from a sleep disorder that will require a physicians attention.

Avoid alcohol. Even though it may seem to help at first, your sleep will not be restful because the alcohol prevents you from falling into the deeper stages of sleep.

As they may interact with any medications that you may be taking. It's always a good idea to first discuss any type of natural remedies with your doctor.

Good information and very helpful. There is nothing worse than laying there hour after hour and not being able to sleep.
