How To Start a Baby-Sitting Business

By Edited Dec 28, 2015 1 1

Many people are looking for ways to bring in a little extra income these days. I'm here to share an idea that worked for me when I was younger. Starting your own Baby-Sitting business can be both rewarding and lucrative. If you love children and wouldn't mind making some extra cash, then follow the steps below.

Things You Will Need

Flyers, Business Cards, an Appointment Book.

Step 1

CPR Training

The first step to starting your own baby-sitting business is to get CPR certified. Although having to perform CPR would be a worst case scenario, and has a small chance of occurring, it is better to be safe than sorry. Many CPR certification classes are free or only cost a small fee. Check with your local Parks & Rec, Red Cross, or local Government building to inquire and sign up for CPR class. Make sure you attend all classes necessary to obtain your certification.

Step 2

Sample Flyer

After you have been CPR certified you are ready to work on getting customers. Create flyers and business cards advertising your business, complete with contact information. It would be best to make sure your flyers and business card say that you have been CPR certified so that parents are assured that you are prepared in case of an emergency. Flyers can be created in Word or Photoshop very easily. You don't need anything particularly fancy, but it should be clear and concise. You can get free business cards printed with Vista is you so choose, or make your own!

Step 3

After you have created your flyers and business cards it's time to get the word out! If you live in a sub division or neighborhood, then place your flyers on neighbors mailboxes and shared community spots. If there are playgrounds in the area, place flyers there as well. Go to your local grocers and hang flyers on their advertising cork board. Ask friends and family to help spread the word. It is also a good idea to email your flyer to everyone you know and ask friends and family to forward it on as well. you may also want to leave some business cards with local businesses.

Step 4

Appointment Book

After you have placed your flyers and advertisements, it should be a matter of time before you begin getting calls. Make sure you have an appointment book handy to write down all of your new babysitting gigs! The last thing you want to do is double book, so have an appointment book handy to stay organized.

Starting your own baby-sitting business is not a particularly hard thing to do, but it does take hard work and dedication. It also requires patience and a love for children. Only you can make your baby-sitting experiences fun and rewarding for all parties.

Tips & Warnings

It is a good idea to build up a great baby-sitting reputation because then parents may trust you with others things such as pet-sitting or house sitting.
