Many people wonder how to suppress hunger. There are foods that can help you do it and two of the best are olive oil and avocados. These two foods contain good fats that make you feel more satiated. By adding them to salads, sandwiches, or used as a dip you can help feel fuller longer throughout the day. Avocados can be used to make guacamole, and olive oil can be used as a dressing for salad or a dip for bread. There are other foods that help you feel full, but these two are very easy to use, inexpensive, and can be paired with many different types of foods so it is not hard to incorporate them into your diet.
When you are going to have a sandwich make sure you put it on either whole grain or rye bread. These types of breads contain ingredients(in particular whole grains) that digest more slowly through you body and help you curb your hunger. When you eat foods such as white bread, foods high in flour, and sugary snacks your body processes these very fast because they are low in nutritional value, and therefore you do not feel full as long. In many cases the healthier a food item is for you the slower your body digests it. So not only does a healthy diet keep your calorie count down and keep your waist line smaller, but it helps you avoid overeating as you are not hungry as often.
Drinking enough water is one of the ways to suppress appetite that works the best. Many people confuse thirst with hunger, make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day. There is always a debate on whether people really need 8 glasses of water each day, but at the least carry a water bottle with you so that you have water available all day. By being able to recognize true hunger as opposed to thirst you can help stop from over eating.
The next thing to recognize is that most diets do not work in the long term. People tend to boomerang in their weight loss, they lose weight on diets then put it all back on(and even gain weight in some cases). Eating six small meals throughout the day will stop you from feeling hungry, and will help you from losing and gaining weight going on and off diets. By eating six small meals you can reach a healthy weight, avoid being hungry, and most importantly you can do it long term.

It will keep you fuller longer, and also helps feed your muscles what they need to stay healthy(muscle in your body is made up of protein fibers). Two great sources of protein are Canadian bacon or a protein shake. Both will be digested slowly in your body so you will not have the urge to eat when you are not hungry. When drinking a protein shake you need to be aware of the other ingredients however. They can be loaded with sugar in some cases which will not help your waist line. So before you buy any protein shake product make sure that besides the protein it has other healthy ingredients in it.
People who do not understand how to suppress hunger in a healthy way may not realize that fats in their food can help them feel full and avoid gaining weight. Fats in food do not make you fat, they help you feel full(as long as you are getting the right kind of fats). Taking in more calories than you burn is what makes you gain weight, do not worry about fat, worry about calories. People who buy no-fat products often end up over-eating because they do not feel full as there is no fat in the foods they are eating(and commercially bought "no fat" products often replace the fats with many chemicals that you may not want to be putting in your body). Good fats can be found in nuts, avocados, and olive oil. When you are buying store bought products do not buy "no fat", instead buy the full fat products as they will help you feel full. The fats in products such as salad dressing are not as good as the fats in avocados for example, but they will help you feel full and are better than the chemicals used to replace these fats. Again, you have to watch your caloric intake if you want to lose or maintain your weight, not your intake of fats.
You do not need to wonder how to suppress your appetite, it is not hard if you follow the steps listed above. One last area that there is debate on is whether the chemicals that are added to your foods make people more hungry. Buy organic fruits and vegetables, as well as grass fed beef that has not been given any steroids or hormones whenever possible. This is not something that everyone can do, but if you can it is better to buy these products.
