Good information! This is especially useful if you are low on dollars and are looking at used tires, either at a tire dealer or at a wrecking yard. Also, if you are buying a set of tires, be sure that the manufacturing dates are the same or at least close for all tires. This will help ensure that you will receive a consistent batch of tires and one won't need to be replaced early because of age.

The tire age code actually is on the OUTER sidewall (the side facing you) and appears after the letters "DOT" (Department of Transportation). Although using five years as your personal limit for tire age is a good idea, all major tire manufacturers advise replacing tires after SIX years.
