Bad Breath Treatment

Bad Breath Remedies

If you or someone you know suffers from bad breath also known as halitosis can be extremely embarrassing for the sufferer. It can also create some very awkward situations for others who come in contact with an individual with bad breath.

The good news is...you don't have to continue to be uncomfortable and embarrassed.  There are several ways to learn how to treat  bad breath.

Home Remedies For Bad Breath

Probably one of the easiest ways to keep your breath smelling fresh...is to simply brush your tongue.  In addition to tooth brushing...cleaning your tongue will go along way in getting rid of bad breath.  Why? Think of your tongue like one of those Swiffer mops you've seen on television.  They attract dust and dirt like a magnet.  Well your tongue works kind of the same way. It attracts bacteria and little micro size bits of food.  So unless you clean your tongue regularly...it continues to build up and eventually begins to create a bad odor in the form of bad breath.

You can purchase a "tongue cleaner" at your local drugstore...to scrape off all of that bacteria and food.

Chew Some Gum

Another little known cure for bad breath  is simply chewing gum.  Really?  Yes!..chewing gum helps to stimulate saliva production.  Your saliva will help wash away bacteria and lingering food bits to help eliminate mouth odor.

Just make sure that the gum you choose  contains a sugar substitute called Xylitol.  Chewing gum with Xylitol not only tastes good but will also help create more saliva to continue to wash away the bad stuff in your mouth.  So start chewing!

How To Get Rid Of Bad Breath By Doing This Really Simple Thing

Controlling bad breath can be done by simply drinking more water.  We've all heard the benefits of drinking water for overall health.  If you are dehydrated...that generally means your mouth will be dry.  Dry mouth allows the bacteria to grow and as you now know ...that will automatically mean bad breath.  So drink lots of water to keep you hydrated and to keep washing the bad bacteria and little food particles from your mouth.

Pass The Cinnamon Please!

When it comes to home remedies for bad breath...cinnamon shows a lot of promise.  Scientists have found that cinnamon contains an ingredient that actually kills off the bad breath causing bacteria. It is not a 100% solution...but it is definitely worth trying.  Keep in mind that if you choose to get your cinnamon via a candy or gum product...make sure it is sugarless.

Will Mouthwash Get Rid Of Bad Breath?

With so many different mouthwashes available you would think surely one of them would show you how to get rid of bad breath. In part mouthwashes do help stop bad breath. Unfortunately, it is only a temporary fix.  Mouthwashes only "cover up" the problem. If you don't address the real issue once the affects of the mouthwash wears off..your bad breath returns.

Could Something Else Other Than Bacteria And Food Be Causing Your Bad Breath?

In some cases bad breath could be related to some health issues you may not be aware of. If you find that nothing you try works...make an appointment with your dentist.  Also consider seeing your family doctor to check for any underlying issues.  It's better to be safe than sorry.

If you are taking any medications these could very well be the source of your bad breath as well.  If you're not sure...ask your local pharmacist if the medications you're taking could be causing bad breath.  If so..ask what you can do to control the odor if at all possible.

Regular visits to your dentist is very important. He or she can check your teeth and gums for any infections that may be causing odor problems.

Your dentist may recommend a water irrigation tool.  It works by shooting a stream of water via a tube like instrument.  You then use it to wash between your teeth and rinse your tongue. Water irrigation tools  can reach places your tooth brush can't.

Lastly...make sure you floss daily to remove food from between your teeth.

Now you have a better idea on how to treat bad breath on your own.  Find one that works and stick with it and be consistent.

You could be enjoying  clean fresh breath much sooner than you think.
