How To Utilize Solar Power For Your Own Home

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 1 | |

Many people are becoming more and more conscious of the environment as news about global warming becomes more mainstream knowledge. There are new companies popping up all the time trying to find new ways to reduce our carbon footprint. Well one of the simple ways that all of us can embrace to reduce our impact on the environment is by use of alternative energy sources. Solar energy is one of those alternative energy sources. In the following article we will explore the various benefits and disadvantages of solar power.

Solar panels are easy to install but need a fairly large initial investment. They work via photovoltaic cells which are little black squares that absorb energy from the sun. Although they are a bit expensive now, they are getting more efficient and less expensive all the time due to recent advances in technology. Each individual cell is becoming less expensive to produce and so the cost per panel is decreasing as well. Just a few years ago it was over $4 per watt to produce; today it is under $1.

Solar PanelsThere is no doubt that solar energy is good for the environment - it gives off absolutely no emissions and harnesses the power of the sun which is an endless supply of energy. People are finally realizing how important it is to reduce their impact on the environment. You can even install them on your own home's rooftop. Even big name companies have got into the solar power game. Google and Walmart are two such examples.

Even on non-optimal days, when it is rainy or overcast, solar panels can capture enough power. They are getting better and better at working on inclement days. Technologically advanced systems that store more energy at one time during sunlit days than previous have led the way in making solar panels actually usable for mainstream.

Other than solar panels there are few other options for collection of solar energy. There is the PV system which is connected straight to the power grid. And whenever that particular system isn't being fully utilized, the extra energy is spread out to the rest of the grid. You can even make a little extra money that way.

So as you can see solar energy is actually a viable method of energy generation that people can utilize to reduce their carbon footprint. While solar panels may be expensive for some, if you can afford the initial investment you can enjoy years of clean renewable energy without impacting the environment any more than is necessary. Of you can always try your hand at building your own solar panels. If you're a do-it-yourself-er you can make one for around $100 per panel.
