How To Wheelie on a Fixed Gear Bike

By | 2 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

A fixed gear bike, or "fixie", is a single gear bike with no freewheel and typically no brakes. They are bikes in the simplest form.

In order to wheelie on a fixed gear bike you will need to do a few things. First you will need to focus on balance. Next thing to do would be finding a comfortable speed to ride at, slow at first, just to get used to popping the bike up. If you overpower the pedal, your bike will pop out from under you and you will hopefully land on your feet.

To do a wheelie/manual on a fixed gear bike, you should remember three motions:

  • Pull up on the handlebars
  • Lean back with force
  • Pedal hard at the "magic spot" (after your pedal reaches the top of the rotation, you will have to push hard a little after it comes down a bit)
Just like riding a mountain bike, but you have to remember that the pedals will not stop moving until the back wheel does. Learning to wheelie on a fixed gear bike is difficult at first, but after a few hours of practice you will develop a base and you can take off from there.
