How To Workout At Home Without Machines

A lot of people are under the impression that in order to get in shape, tone-up, and lose weight, you have to be a member at a pricey fitness club or gym. While the atmosphere in a gym can be motivating and inspiring with all of the state of the art equipment and endless rows of machines though, it is not a critical component to your success.

Most of the machines that you find in a gym are made to mimic natural movements that the body makes. They are designed to facilitate a smoother range of motion with quick/easy weight stack and height adjustments. With the right program in place, and a few small dumbbells, you can easily complete a workout that is just as good if not better. Honestly, as a trainer, some of my best workouts ever have been done from inside a garage or basement!

So if you are looking to get a good workout at home, try a workout consisting of calisthenics mixed with some aerobic activity. That is, use your own body weight against yourself as resistance to help strengthen and tone the entire body. Exercises like push-ups, squats, sit-ups, crunches, pull-ups, dips, and lunges are all examples of calisthenic exercises. I would recommend 3 sets for each exercise to complete failure 3 times a week. As you improve, you should be able to complete more reps for each exercise so remember to keep challenging yourself so as to maximize your results. Then, if you could do 30-45 minutes of cardiovascular activity such as walking, biking, or swimming on most days of the week, that should help to define and tone you newly developed muscles in just a few weeks!

If you are looking to workout from home and don't have access to any fancy machines, simply go to One80.com and tell me what equipment you do have if any, and what you want to do with your body, and I will make you a beautiful customized home-workout program for free!
