How To reinstall OS X without iLife
If you are low on space on your Mac computer and need to save a few gigabytes, a good option would be to leave iLife out of your installation.
Things You Will Need
* An Apple Macintosh computer running Mac OS X* A legal OS restore disk or retail disk of Mac OS X
Step 1
**Back up all of your data first!**This How-To will detail steps for a CLEAN installation of the Mac OS without iLife. All data on the hard drive will be destroyed.
Step 2
Insert your legal Mac OSX restore disk that came with your computer. If you have two disks, insert Disk 1.Step 3
Reboot your computer. Make sure the computer boots up using the disk.Step 4
Choose the language you want to use from the list on your screen.Step 5
In the "Installer" window that appears click the "Continue" button.Step 6
The next window will ask you to pick the hard drive to use. The most common default drive will be named "Macintosh HD." You may have other hard drives and/or partitions. So, be sure to double check you are installing in the right place. Click next.Step 7
The next window will have three buttons at the bottom: "Customize" - "Go Back" - "Install"Click "Customize."
Step 8
Now you will see a list of items that can be installed.Uncheck everything except "Essential software."
Click done and then click "Install."
Step 9
Mac OSX will now be installed on your hard drive without iLife or additional language packs. This will save you several GB's of valuable hard drive space.You can put Disk 2 away. You won't be needing it this time!
