How and Why To Do A Colon Cleanse

By Edited Jul 5, 2015 0 0

The colon is an often ignored part of the body but colon cancer is one of the most common but most treatable and avoidable diseases. Doing a colon cleanse can help you remove toxins from your body, remove bloating, help you lose a few pounds, and help you feel great. The majority of your immune system lives in your digestive system and when it's sluggish and dirty, it can impact your health in a big way. It can cause belly bloating, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), bad breath, skin problems, headaches, and other negative side effects.

Consider doing an annual (or even semi-annual) colon cleanse as well as changing some of your habits to promote good digestive health.

Things You Will Need

natural colon cleanser
time at home
healthy food
plenty of water

Step 1

Choose a Colon Cleanser:

There are colon cleanser products on the market that are designed to help you safely flush your colon clean. Choose a colon cleanser wisely and follow the directions carefully. There are herbal cleansers, natural supplements, and oxygen cleansers. If you can avoid using one that causes the colon to contract, this is wise.

Step 2

Spend Time At Home

It's a good idea to start your colon cleanse when you can be at home for a few days. There are 3 day cleanses and 7 day cleanses. If you're doing a 3 day cleanse, for instance, do it over a long weekend when you really don't have many plans. You'll want to be close to the bathroom. A lot of cleansers are designed to be gentle but could have you in the bathroom for a large chunk of the days after you take the cleanser.

Step 3

Drink Water!

Be sure to drink plenty of fluids during your colon cleanse. If it's a safe and natural product it shouldn't dehydrate you but it is definitely wise to try to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day while you are cleaning out your body.

Step 4

Eat Well

Some colonics are done while doing a fast. Others suggest you continue to eat but suggest you eat well. Avoid processed foods and eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. While you're cleaning out toxic sludge from your intestines, your body will benefit from replenishment of nutrients and vitamins. The junkfood you've eaten has definitely contributed to a dirty colon so it's a good idea to eat cleanly throughout your cleanse.

Step 5

Tweak Your Habits

Hopefully you're looking and feeling better after cleaning out your body. If you can, use this as a springboard for a healthier lifestyle. Eat better, exercise more, watch your bowel habits to ensure you're having movements on a regular basis. Try to get at least 25 grams of fiber in your diet on a daily basis to promote plenty of regular and easy bowel movements.

Take Care Of Your Colon

Colon cancer can be avoided. If you've got a history of colon cancer in your family or a history of digestive problems, be sure you're getting colon screening on a regular basis. Changing your lifestyle can make a dramatic impact on your digestive system. Consider increasing your fiber and taking a probiotic supplement as well as ensuring you're getting adequate vitamins and nutrients.

Tips & Warnings

Choose your natural colon cleanser wisely. Avoid straight laxatives if at all possible. Research available options and talk to your doctor about what you're planning to do.
