A How To Guide for Making Money on the Internet

Four different ways to make money online

There are many different ways to make money online that don't require you to be an expert with computers or web design. In fact, if you are simply willing to put in time and effort, you will find that the possibilities are infinite. Here I will tell you a few ways in which I make money online.

There are two ways to go about making money from online advertising. One is to create your own website. While this may seem like a tall order, blog applications like Wordpress make it easy to create a well designed site that is easy to update without knowing any html or web design code.

You can create a free hosting account with wordpress.com or you can sign up for a hosting account with a company like Host Gator. While Host Gator costs money, they provide hosting accounts for as low as $4.95/month. The reason it is desirable to have your own hosting account is because then you can have your own domain (for example somethingsomething.com as opposed to somethingsomething.wordpress.com). Having your own domain will help your site build credibility with search engines and it will lead to more traffic.

Once you create your site, you will work on directing traffic to it. The simplest way to do this is by providing good content and getting links back to your site.

But you cannot make money online solely by having a lot of visitors. Once you start getting traffic to your site, you can put advertising on your page, either through Google Adsense or Chitika. If your site has enough traffic, you may even be approached by people who want to pay to put individual ads on your site.

Advertising on your own website is one way to make money online, but you can also use article based sites like InfoBarrel. With InfoBarrel, you sign up for free, write articles, and then collect 70-90% of the ad revenue from each article. This is a great deal, because the only thing you need to invest is your time. If you write good articles, they will earn money for you while you sit back and watch!

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is the process of recommending a product or service and then receiving a commission when someone purchases it. This method of making money on the Internet can be used in conjunction with advertising. Some notable affiliate sites are Clickbank and Commission Junction. Amazon.com  also has an affiliate program. You could have a website with google adsense ads, for example, and then you could supplement those ads with links to products you support on amazon.com. If someone purchases something through your amazon link, you receive a commission.

Freelance Writing

Freelance writing is yet another way to make money on the internet. There are a number of websites that will pay you to write articles on a variety of topics. Two prominent freelance writing sites are TextBroker and Demand Studios. On these sites, you select the articles you want to write, and then you are paid based on the type of article or the word count. TextBroker pays so many cents a word (depending on your writing quality) and Demand Studios pays flat amounts from $7 to $15 for relatively short articles. Considering not much time is needed to research and write these kinds of articles, you could write several in an hour if you are diligent. For me, a couple hours of article writing a day is a great supplement to my monthly income.

Informational Product Creation

If you are especially passionate or knowledgeable about a certain topic, you can make money online by creating an ebook or online course. Writing an ebook is easier than it sounds. You can create and format a document in Open Office (visit openoffice.org to download it for free). When you have the book laid out how you would like it to look and you have written all the content, you can export the document as a PDF file. Once you have your PDF file, you can set up an automated shopping cart system with a company like e-junkie.com. E-Junkie charges a $5 flat monthly rate and they do not take a cut of your sales.

Think about this for a second. If you are a decent writer and you are knowledgeable about a certain topic, you could first build a website. Drive traffic to that website by getting links and creating quality content. Once you have built up a following, release an ebook and sell it through your website. For $10 a month (e-junkie monthly fee plus monthly fee for hosting company like Host Gator) you could be making hundreds and potentially thousands of dollars.

These four methods will help you get started making money on the internet. Remember that all of these things take motivation and perserverance. You may not see results for a while, but considering how low the initial investment is, don't you think it's worth it?
