There is nothing worse than finding out you have been overpaying for XM Radio. However, there are a few ways to keep your XM Radio service and save your wallet. It may not be easy but if you are looking to save a few bucks each month, you can try my method below.
You will need to call XM Radio at 800-XM-RADIO and tell the customer service representative that you would like to cancel your service. They should immediately transfer you to their cancellation department. Once you reach the cancellation department you will want to express to them that you are no longer interested in paying their price for service or any other compelling reason. Their cancellation department is more like a customer retention department; they do not want to let you go. More often than not, you will be offered what I like to call "stay with us" offers.
If the cancellation representative does not offer you a good deal, meaning over 50% off, you will need to simply deny their retention offer, keep your account active and hang up. You can immediately call back and start the process over again.
Honestly, the process should take no longer than one phone call. If they are not making you offers, you will need to examine the story you are giving them. I'm not one to lie, but you can definitely stretch the truth a bit. I mean, who doesn't want to save a few bucks per month anyway? If you are having problems thinking of scenarios you can give them one of the following:
- You are looking to save money in your budget and are cutting out certain luxury items
- Times are getting tough and you can no longer pay the full price.
- You just don't see the value in their programming for the price
My results have turned out fantastic each time I am up for renewal and I've used each one of the above scenarios for different calls. I was once offered $20 for 6 month of service. (Yes, that is $3.33/month). A different time I was offered 3 months free, completely free. Of course, whenever your account is up for renewal, you need to be sure to call again or your rate will automatically reset to their standard rates. This same method works for many other similar services, I will write my methods and experiences in upcoming articles.
