Consumer debt is spiraling out of control. It is easy to feel over-whelmed and hopeless. There are a few techniques that can help. In this article you will learn an effective method that will help you to become debt free.
Things You Will Need
To become debt free, all you need is a plan.Step 1
Organize Your Debts - Make a list of all of your debts from the smallest amount to the largest amount. Include everything no matter how large or small they may seem.Step 2
Get Current - The first thing you need to do is to get current on all of your debts. Nothing derails progress like late fees and other other items such as over-the-limit fees. Do whatever it takes to get ALL of your payments back on track.Step 3
Snowball Your Debt - Now that you are current on all of your debts, continue paying the minimum amounts on all but the smallest debt. Any extra money that becomes available during the month should be applied to this debt. Do not wait until the end of the month to see if you will need it. Trust me, if you keep it you will spend it. Send it out as an additional payment immediately.Once the smallest debt has been completed eliminated, start attacking the second smallest debt. You should now be paying the minimum amount on the second smallest debt AND whatever amount you were paying on the eliminated debt. In this way you are creating some real momentum and will become debt free at a much faster rate.
Step 4
Continue Your Debt Snowball - Keep repeating step #3 until you are debt free. Attack each subsequently larger debt until nothing remains. Focus on your goal and let nothing stand in your way.All you need to become debt free is a plan. Follow these steps and you should be able to eliminate your credit card debt faster than you thought possible.
