How to Build a Subwoofer Box for Your Car
If you want to know how to build a subwoofer box for your car or truck, here are some steps that you should follow to ensure the best sound for your buck. When building a subwoofer box for your car you have to first determine what size of box that you are going to use. You are going to want to build a box around a certain defined size of speaker. The bigger the box the deeper the base is going to be when you play your subs after everything is installed. The smaller the box, the lighter the sound is going to be and more controlled, than a deeper box.
If you are running twelve inch or 15 inch subwoofers, you are going to need a pretty big box. Make sure that you have enough room in your trunk to store the boxes. Some good places to put subwoofer boxes in your car is where the spare tire is stored, or you can just put them in the cargo space. If you have two subs, try and make a box that is going to fit the width of your car trunk. If you have one, make it take up one third the space. If you have three or more, divide the space evenly.
What you will need to build your boxes is either wood, or plexiglass. Plexiglass is a little more expensive than wood, but it sounds a lot better. You can also use fiberglass as well too. The next thing that you should do is measure your dimensions. Get the right sized pieces that you need and then start putting them together. You are going to have to use cocking or sealant to make sure that the spaces do not let out any air in the subs. You are also going to have to remember to drill holes in the sub box so that you can wire up the subs. Make sure that you fill the box with insulation as well. Cotton or fiberglass insulation works well. Also make sure to remember to drill holes for where the speaker is going to be mounted. Once this is completed, you should also remember to carpet your box from the outside as to give the box a nice look and to seal any excess air that may escape the box. Once all this is complete, place your sub in the box and power the subs. You may also want to be sure to mount the subs to a solid place in the car so that they do not move around. At this time, you should have a great sounding subwoofer with a stylish box for your car audio needs. This is how to build a subwoofer box for your car.
