How to Build your First Website using Homestead
Building your first website can be a daunting task. Most website creation software packages require you to have some knowledge of HTML or flash to be able to create a professional looking website. For my first website I have used Homestead and I am relatively pleased with it.
Things You Will Need
Computer, Internet access, Homestead SitebuilderStep 1
Decide what kind of website you are going to design. If you need a website that is heavy with flash, you should look somewhere else. Homestead does not offer much in the way of flash.
Step 2
Decide how big you need your website to be. Homestead offers a certain amount of bandwidth and web pages depending on the amount that you are willing to pay.
Step 3
Are you going to make your own site? Will you make more than 3? If so this could affect your decision to use homestead as the prices go up for each number of sites you own. 1 small site will cost $5.00 while 3 medium sites will cost $20.00 and unlimited large sites will cost $50.00.
Step 4
Now that you have signed up for Homestead, you should choose a template. You can start from scratch if you wish but I recommend choosing a template and modifying it to satisfy your needs.
Step 5
Outline the layout of your website. You should write out exactly what you want to do before you do it. This will prevent re-work in the future.
Step 6
After the outline is completed, start building pages. You should build your pages and links first before you start creating content. This will help to keep the layout of your website consistent throughout all of the pages.
Step 7
Create all of the content. Depending on how large your site is going to be this could take a while. You should create most of your content before you start marketing your website because if it looks incomplete, you will have a hard time getting it accepted to directories.
Step 8
You should constantly update and make corrections to your site. This will keep it fresh and search engines like Google appreciate that.
Homestead is one of the best ways to build a website with no prior experience.
