How to Calm Down and Feel Normal Again
A lot of things just don't seem to go right, and life isn't ever going to be fairâeven though life can sometimes have it in store for you, sometimes it can be hard not to get angry. These 5 easy steps will help you calm down and carefully think about things.
Before you do anything count down backwards from 100. If this task seems too easy for you, recite your ABC's backwards. This should give your mind and body enough time to cool down.
For short term purposes grab a stress ball. Give your stress ball a good hard squeeze and then repeat. This should help you calm down.
Now take out a piece of paper and write down everything that has happened. Just write and let your thoughts come out on the paper.
If the paper method isn't cutting it, try to calm down by talking to a friend. Find someone who will sympathetically listen to your troubles and who you can vent to.
If you still need to calm down after these events, consider going for a run or walk. This will get the blood flowing in your body and calm your nerves. Expending an intense physical effort will tire your mind and body and take your mind off whatever it is that made you upset.
Finally realize that you can't control everything that will happen to you. A lot of things are out of our control and we are only able to choose how to handle them. So the next time you get angry, take these steps to calm down!
