How to Change the Orientation of Your Computer Monitor Screen

Sometimes it is necessary to change the orientation of your computer monitor from portrait to landscape to provide the optimal performance for some games and video productions. You can also change the orientation on a Tablet PC using this procedure from landscape to portrait. Changing the screen orientation works the same on an older crt screen, flat screen, or lcd monitor can also be a good harmless practical joke to play on someone else. It can be a little unsettling to find your computer monitor screen's orientation turned sideways. The following instructions are primarily for Windows X-P but will work for many other versions of the Windows operating systems.

Things You Will Need

Computer, Keyboard

Step 1

Press and hold down the Alt and Ctrl keys.

Step 2

While holding down the Alt and Ctrl, press one of the "arrow" keys to rotate the screen.

Step 3

Correct Screen Orientation

Depending on which arrow key is pushed, the screen will rotate from 90 to 270 degrees.

Step 4

On some computers with XP Service Pack 2, it is necessary to turn off the number lock function on the keyboard and while holding down the Alt and Ctrl keys, press the number 1 key (end key) and then use the appropriate arrow key on the number pad by hitting it twice.

It can be a little unsettling to find your computer monitor screen's orientation turned sideways. By following the simple steps provided, you can have your monitor back to normal in no time.
