If you want to avoid all of these scams, and just get straight down to business, here is the way to do it. By law, you are entitled to a copy of your credit report for free every year. There is no catch. You just get your report in the mail. Follow these simple steps and you are on your way to your information. For free!!!

What you need to do:

Step 1

Log on to Follow the instructions to get a free credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies. These are Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax.

Step 2

Select your state and click request report. Then it will prompt you to provide all of your personal information. This is a secure site. You need to know your social security number and also have an address where the reports can be sent to you.

Step 3

After all your information is entered, now all you have to do is wait until you receive your reports in the mail. Then you will be armed with this knowledge when you go to apply for credit or loans in the future. If any of the information is incorrect, now you know and you will be able to dispute this and possibly have it removed to increase your credit score.

If you don't have internet access, you can also call 1-877-322-8228 to request the same information. This inquiry will not affect your credit score.
