How to Choose Your Conditioner
With so many conditioners to choose from, it's no wonder that many of us are using the wrong one. How do you know what conditioner will moisturize your hair without weighing it down? Think about your hair. Is it dry? Is it oily? Is it especially thick or especially fine? Determining the kind of hair you have will narrow things down a little, and will also help you decide how often you need to use it. (Dry hair? Every day, maybe with shampoo every other day. Normal hair? Maybe not every day.)
You also want to think about the style of your hair. Conditioner will help if you want your hair to look straight and silky - it will keep it from getting too dry and full of static. On the other hand, conditioner makes hair a little too silky to hold good curl or to go into a good updo. For that you may want to try other products - curling products, etc.
Think about your style routine. If you straighten or blow dry your hair most days, you'll probably want a conditioner for dry or damaged hair (even if you don't think you need one). If you let your hair air dry, you can probably get by with a normal conditioner less often.
One way to check your hair type (if you aren't sure) is to wash your hair with shampoo and let it dry naturally, then look at it. Is it shiny? Is it frizzy? Does it seem dry? Judging your hair without conditioner on it will help you to determine what kind of conditioner you need.
