How to Cope with Anxiety and Nervous Breakdown

By | Jun 27, 2010 | 1 Comments | Rating: 0

What is the connection between anxiety and nervous breakdown? A number of conditions such as phobias, panic and obsessive compulsive disorder comprise the term commonly referred to as anxiety. However, the medical community uses the term anxiety disorder or situational depression to refer to what was formerly called a nervous breakdown.

Usually the onset of an anxiety disorder is triggered by something of a neurological, genetic or biological origin, but it may also start as a result of changes in a person's life. By comparison, the manner in which you deal with life changes may result in a nervous breakdown, or the breakdown could be the start of mental illness itself.

Being aware of the changes you are going through, and accepting the life altering nature of them, is vital in helping you prevent a nervous breakdown or allowing you to get through one. Looking to and identifying those parts of your life where you are in control of the anxiety and stress elements of your life will help you when you start to feel overwhelmed by issues that may be affecting you. Attempting to regain your control is usually the reaction to the feeling of going out of control.

When a nervous breakdown occurs, regaining your control and power is achieved by getting some rest and relaxation. You will empower your anxiety even more if you attempt to push forward beyond your physical and mental capacity, to deal with the issues that are overwhelming you. By being patient, giving yourself some space from the issues, and allowing yourself to fully experience the issues, you will win over the situations that caused your physical and mental breakdown and help to alleviate your anxiety.

Seeking professional help to deal with your panic and anxiety disorders is often regarded by many people as a sign that you have already lost the battle. Seeking help to deal with these issues, contrary to what many people feel, just points to the fact that you are taking the necessary steps to get better.

And even when you seek help in this way, it is not something that you will need your whole life. The help given you by professionals will cease once you have learned to identify the reasons for the suffering and pain you experienced, and the techniques you can utilize to prevent them from reoccurring. Without proactive attempts to look for the root causes of your anxiety and nervous breakdown, these conditions may cause some lifelong damage.
