How to Cope with Bad Soccer Referees
Refereeing a soccer game, youth or adult, can be a tough business (I was a certified referee for 5 years). Often times it's difficult for Referees and spectators (or players for that matter) to meet eye to eye. Here are a few things you can do to help you cope with a Bad soccer referee.
First, don't yell and scream. This may vent your anger, but you will become the object of attention. Not only will the Referees make a target out of you and possibly eject you from the game, but you will look childish and unable to control your emotions.
The best thing to do is think about the play in your mind. Try to see the soccer play from the point of view of the Referee. When time permits (after the game or maybe at half time) calmly discuss your opinion with the referee.
Consider the position of the Referee. The duty of the referee is to ensure the safety of all the players on the field. He/she may not be doing a bang up job, but are they keeping all the players safe?
Last, see it as a growing opportunity. Teams never get to pick the Referees. Good teams will be able to win even with a referee that isn't top notch. See a bad referee as an extra obstacle that can help you improve.
