Blog ImageIf you are looking to give your blog a makeover or if you are in the process of creating a new blog you'll most likely want a blog with some character and style! There are a few key components that you will need to create a blog that rocks!

There is nothing worse than coming across a blog that is boring, dull, far from being user friendly, unorganized, and completely just a mess.

If you are new to blogging you will quickly learn that there are hundreds of gadgets and widgets and layouts and templates, all which can add to the overall look and design of your blog. While an advanced blog is not for everyone there are some key components you will need to consider when trying to create a great blog!

I would have never been able to make my blog what it is without the help of Paul Crowe. Paul owns Spice up Your Blog, a blog which gives all the best tips and tricks on blogger gadgets, secrets, anything and everything that you will really need to make your blog stand out. 90% of my blog is what it is because of his blog posts that taught me how to get the most out of my own blog! Here is what you will need to consider in order to create a blog that rocks:

Design- The first thing readers will see when they come to your blog is the style and design! Is yours inviting? Will people be able to find what they are looking for? You want to make sure that your design is inviting yet simple. You don't want it to be cluttered with ads and useless information!

Find a great template- There are a ton of places on the internet where you can find templates for your blog. I'd check out: or Pimp my Profile which has a lot of My Space stuff but it also has really cool blog templates!

Create a theme that gives your blog a little character!

Create a banner- Don't just type in your title at the top of your page; give it a bit of style. You can create banners for free on the internet. I used Bannerfans and an image I had in my picture files to create the banner for my blog, shown below!

Make a name for yourself- Don't limit yourself to your blog as the only way people can find you. Make a name for yourself other places like Twitter, Linkden, etc… and link all of your sites. Branching out can really help to increase your blog traffic. Another great idea is to write on article based submission sites like Hub Pages, Ezine articles, and Info Barrel. All of these sites allow you to create links to your blog and even create a bio to let readers find out about you and your blog.

Make it professional- If you are into blogging for business purposes then you will want people to take your blog seriously. Make sure your blog has a professional, clean and clear layout!Treat You Blog Like a Business- Running a successful blog means putting some work into it. Set aside a certain amount of time each day or each week that you will dedicate entirely to your blog.

Make sure your blog is user friendly- One of the most important factors of running a successful blog is to make sure it is easy to navigate. Can your readers clearly find the topics they are looking for? Are your posts categorized appropriately? Have you made it simple for your readers to contact you, subscribe to your feeds, or find you on other sites? These are all important factors of creating a successful blog. The more time you put into the better it will be!

Stay connected- Make it easy for your readers to connect with you through social media links! Once you have created accounts as stated above add buttons and links that will make it easy for your readers to find you other places on the internet. Make it clear where else your readers can find you; are you on Facebook, Twitter? There are applications that will allow you to integrate all of these features into your blog. Again, Pauls site Spice up Your Blog has all kinds of codes and gadgets to create some pretty cool social media links!

RSS Feed- Set up an RSS Feed, I suggest Feedburner, it has a lot of great features! Make sure you integrate a few different ways for your readers to sign up for your feed!

With all of these components integrated into your blog you will be well on your way to creating a blog that rocks! Good luck!
