How to Cut Down on Waste

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 1 | |

Every year Americans produce close to 240 million tons of trash - about 5 pounds of trash per person. This may take the form of hazardous waste such as old batteries and oil, paper waste or other types of waste. Waste is dangerous to our health, clutters our environment and compromises the future of our children. Here is how to cut down on waste.

Things You Will Need

Recycling containers

Step 1

Cut down on purchases. Do you really need the extra shoes, more toys or other goods. Evaluate each thing before you buy it. The less you buy, the less you will have to dispose of.

Step 2

Recycle as often as possible. Donate clothes and furniture to Goodwill. Take a moment to save a can and pop it in a recycling bin instead of tossing it in the trash. Recycling is a great way to cut down on waste.

Step 3

Stop using so much paper and ink. Bookmark sites instead of printing things off the computer. Send e-cards instead of buying paper cards. Make use of the back of used paper to write notes.

Step 4

Buy groceries in bulk instead of individual packages. Individual packages use more materials.
