How to Decide Which Video Game Console to Buy
There are three giants out there competing for our business, and they all offer certain qualities that they believe set them apart from the competition. Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony all target certain niche groups that they believe will give them a competitive advantage above the other two. In order to decide which video game console is right for you, you will need to think about what is most important to you in a gaming system. In this article I will focus on the strengths and weaknesses of each system so that you can make a better decision when purchasing a new system.
Xbox 360
The Xbox is the middle of the ground console when it comes to power and capability. It is far more powerful than the Nintendo and only slightly less powerful than the Playstation 3. The strengths of the 360 include their great selection of games and the ability to use Netflix through your internet connection via the Xbox. The Xbox was also the pioneer in online console gaming so they have pretty much worked out all of the kinks. The downside to the Xbox is that it still seems to be glitch. Once you see the red circle of death, it’s all over. You will be able to be able to send it back to Microsoft and get if fixed for the low, low price of $100.
All that being said, we buy video game consoles that host games that we want to play. There is almost no difference in the selection of popular games available for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. You should, however, only buy one of these systems if you are in the market for more adult games as the selection of kid’s games is incredibly small. The Xbox 360, for all of its faults, is the best system if you are looking for:
Adult Games
Streaming Netflix
Good Quality Graphics
Medium Cost
Downloadable Content
Backwards Compatibility
Playstation 3
The Playstation 3 offers pretty much the same specifications as the Xbox 360. If you are concerned with getting a little bit extra power and stability, then it may be the system for you. The biggest selling point for the Playstation is that it offers a blue ray player. If you are already in the market for a blue ray player, and you are thinking of getting a video game console, you should go with the Playstation. The blue ray player provided with the Playstation is fantastic. The downsides to the Playstation is the lack of backward compatibility, lack of Netflix, and the don’t seem to offer they same downloadable content that the 360 does. In short the Playstation qualities are:
Great blue-ray player
Great Graphics
HDMI cable output
Adult Games
No Netflix
Poor Downloadable Content
High Quality System
No Backwards Compatibility
Wii
The Nintendo Wii can’t compete on any playing field other than cost and type of games. That being said, they are the only company that seems to be producing games targeted directly towards children and non-gamers. If you aren’t a hardcore gamer, or if you have young children, then you should probably get a Nintendo Wii.
