How to Fall Asleep
How to fall asleep? The majority of US adults get some form of insomnia each week. It is a big problem, albeit one, which can be solved with some patience. Of course, you can pop in a sleeping pill, and you'll be sleeping before you know it. But you should keep in mind that you can't depend on sleeping pills for the rest of your life. Sooner or later they are not going to work on you if you use them long enough. You may even get addicted to them and not be able to fall asleep without their use. As such, you need to do some non-drug methods in order to help you fall asleep long term.
Make your room comfortable. Don't be cheap and get yourself the mattress you've always wanted. If you have noise seeping into your bedroom, get a white noise machine. If there is light getting in, invest in eye shades.
Watch some really boring television or read a book. Make sure that you don't entertain yourself with loud and well, "entertaining" things. Don't listen to music that pumps you up.
When in bed, focus on boring topics or count sheep. Whatever works.
Make sure that you get exercise, just not too close to your bedtime. The more physically drained you are during the day, the easier it will be for you to fall asleep. It follows that the more you over eat, the harder it will be for you to fall asleep.
There are CD's out there which have nothing but the sound of nature: waves, rain, the ocean, etc. If you're one of those people who like falling asleep to sounds such as light rain, be sure to buy one of these nature CD's.
