Things You Will Need

Some patience.

Step 1

If you are thinking about things which you must do tomorrow, make a list of them so that you don't have to keep on thinking about them.

Step 2

Don't exercise, watch television (unless it is really boring or mundane), browse the internet, or listen to your tunes (unless they are relaxing), before you go to sleep. It is recommended that you exercise around 4 hours before your bedtime.

Step 3

Don't drink caffeine before you go to sleep. You don't want that extra energy when you are trying to get to sleep. You also don't want to eat a lot before going to sleep.

Step 4

Dim your lights or turn them off 30 minutes before your bedtime. This will get you into that sleeping mode before you're actually in bed.

Step 5

Make your bedroom your bedroom. In other words, try not to have a bedroom/office type place. This has the psychological benefit of cutting your mind away from work and stress as well as keeping you away from having to get work done.

Step 6

Realize that sleeping pills are only a short-term solution. Long-term, you want to make lifestyle changes, some of which are mentioned above. There is no "best sleeping pill" that you can use for the rest of your life because all of them (yes, even Lunesta) have side effects.
