The economy is tough on all of us right now. If you are struggling to pay your bills and feed your family, then you may be eligible for government food assistance, which is now called the SNAP program. You can find out online with a simple questionnaire, if you may be eligible to receive benefits. It is an easy process and you don't need to take off a day from work to go sit at the local government office to wait your turn.
What you will need:
* Internet Access
* Knowledge of your assets and bills
* A few minutes of your time
What to do:
*Log on to the Food and Nutrition Service website. I have included the link below, so just click on that.
*Click on the "could I be eligible" link.
*Once you get to the SNAP eligibility tool, just click on the "start tool" button.
*Go through and fill out each step of the screening tool. It is not very long, but you will need to know what assets you have, or your family has to fill it out. You will also need to know basic information about your bills and expenses.
*Once you have completed the questionnaire, the last screen will inform you if you are eligible to recieve benefits or not. If you are eligible, you will need to get an application and return it to your local SNAP office. In most states, these applications are available either to fill out online, or to print out and return to your local office. If the tool says you are not eligible, you can still apply if you think you are eligible. This is just a preliminary screening, and your local office has the final say in determining benefits.
*If you don't qualify for SNAP benefits, you may qualify for programs, like Child Nutrition, WIC, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or Disaster Food Programs. There will be links to these on the results page of your screening.
