How to Find a Girlfriend

A grin immediately and involuntarily came to my face upon reading the question. It certainly is not a trivial matter, even though it should obviously be taken in good humour, as most things must.

My first reaction in response to ''how to find a girlfriend'' is: think about it. Do you have friends to start with? Maybe the best thing is to start there, if you haven't enough friends. The simplest and more direct way to find a friend and eventually a girlfriend is to get out, ''amongst them''.

At the risk of parodying some movie on related subjects, I would say: make a list of the ''top ten qualities you would like in a girl'' well; I guess it goes for the girls looking for boys and anyone looking for another, really.

Seriously, I believe we should always dream of our ideal life partner. So I'd suggest you practice seeing yourself with them, being happy and making them happy. In your own mind, enjoy the fine moments you will have together, enjoying all things that goes with having an amazing person around you and being that kind of person to them.

It also helps to get into places where you would have the chance of finding that person: Would you like an athletic person to be your girl/boy? Join athletic clubs; do fun runs, triathlons, join a gym...

So it goes for most other qualities you expect in your girlfriend. What I am saying is you must be in the right environment where you are most likely to find the kind of person you want.

Having said all that, luck plays a huge part in things, and you could meet someone in the most unexpected places and ways, so it leads me back to my first thought. Give yourself a chance by being out amongst them or talk to enough people online in ways that you could learn enough about them to invite them out.

Even though I have plenty of online friends, my preference for finding a person would be to meet the person face to face and hear the sound of their voice, look at their manners and how they do things: do they chew their nails, scratch themselves every other second, fidget interminably, smell like they hadn't been near water for a while, or have been dissecting a dead fish?

So, my top things to do to find a girlfriend:

have a shower
shave (easy on the aftershave)
dress nice
ensure you have a few bucks (a card helps too) in the wallet in case you have the chance to buy the lady a drink
get out of the house and go somewhere you are likely to find other people
find a girl that looks nice and looks like she could not mind a chat
say hi, be polite and don't get too far ahead of yourself in case she's married or the boyfriend is gone to the dunny.
chit chat if possible
offer to buy a drink/coffee/ etc whatever is right for the place
work on getting that phone number, e-mail, etc…
wait till the next day or so and get in touch
