By Edited Jun 19, 2016 0 0

The best kitchen cabinets are really going to change depending from room to room and style to style. It's all just a matter of having the skills and the know-how to really get what is going to work within your space. There are a lot of different tips and tricks that you can use to make sure that you end up getting pieces that you love so that you don't regret a very expensive remodel in a few years.

One thing that you want to keep in mind is that you should really do this process over the course of several weeks or even months. This can seem a little bit tedious at first and it might seem like you get sick of every single piece and constantly change your mind. However, this is really going to let you define what you actually want in your space to get a cabinet that you can live with for a very long time. This is very important because you might not be up to replacing it again for several decades. If you don't love the same thing in a few months then you probably don't want it as a permanent fixture in your kitchen. You might just want to cut out your favorite pictures and put them on your fridge and see how you feel about them after a few weeks. This can help cut down on impulse buys. A visit to a showroom might lead to impulse buys and then you get involved in all the add-ons and your budget goes out the window. Instead, you want to make this decision very carefully, this requires weighing all of your options and really finding out all about what is out there for you.

You really do have to number things in order of importance. For instance if the best quality kitchen cabinets is what is really important to you then you can just consider going with less of them. For instance you could just try replacing your cabinet drawer fronts. This is also true of the doors. This will allow you to get a sleeker design style but you will want to make sure that you're still okay with the wood tones of the basic boxes that you have. You could do a two tone effect but this looks a little bit cheesy and mismatched. In fact you could just replace your entire upper cabinetry and leave your existing lower cabinetry. You can do two different stains of the same kind of wood for a very designer kind of feeling.

However, you can create a lot of designer finishes yourself just as long as you are up for painting. It does take a little bit of practice, you almost have to become a professional yourself. It also will eat up quite a bit of your weekends to get a very cohesive kind of design style in the space but it can be well worth it. This can even save you money even if you do end up replacing the drawer fronts and you just want a totally different finish on all of the cabinetry including the boxes.

If you're looking for the best value kitchen cabinets then either going used or with a lesser quality material is really going to come in handy. You can visit a lot of different home renovation salvage yards to possibly find a complete set. This can be difficult because you don't have to get something that works within your exact space. You may have to supplement with additional cabinets in a different color. You can put these all on the bank of one wall and then add in a lot of molding just so that it does appear more like a china cabinet or hutch, which again is a very designer kind look. At the same time you could just bring in one of these items to supplement your storage space or even act as a pantry and it's a very budget friendly way and also allows you to make the most of your floor plan.

Another thing to consider is your actual space. In smaller rooms you are really going to want to go with custom-built cabinetry. This is important because then you can have it go all the way to the ceiling and really maximize the corner cabinetry. This will be a little bit more expensive but since you are buying less cabinetry it evens out in the end.

Color is also a huge consideration for this kind of space. Really the best wood tone depends on what you already have in your space. You might already have wood floors, or a kitchen island. You can break this up by going with a painted cabinet or a different color. This can actually work more to your advantage over time because at least one of the items in your space is going to be updated or stylish. This means that you won't have to replace everything in sight which can also end up being budget friendly. At the same time you are going to get a totally unique look in your space.

The other thing that you want to take into account is style. You may be in love with intricate door fronts. However, you will want to consider what it will look like when you have dozens of these kinds of pieces up on your walls. It can seem busy. Really, you might find it very helpful to just get balance. For instance, if you're going with a wood grain or dramatic color then you really want this to shine. This is really your favorite thing and your focal point. Then stick with a very basic frame or flat front door to show off the true beauty of this. If you're going with lighter colors such as white, ivory, cream, or a glaze finish you could just use more details. You also want to consider the overall theme and style of your room because this is really going to be the style of your cabinets. For instance if you had a country room then you could try kind of the window pane effect on your upper cabinets. This can be very traditional, but when you add in country accessories it really does create a theme. You can even add in lighting for more of a cheerful effect so you really highlight your investment.
