If you want a great nights sleep then a water bed is one of the best choices you can make. They are immensly popular and a wise choice for someone looking for comfort and style. But, they will inevitably spring a leak. This article will turn a potential disaster into a minor mishaps.
Your first step is to strip and drain the waterbed. Normally all you have to do is attach a garden
hose to the water filling stem and letting it drain into the bathtub. Don't sweat draining it fully. Just enough to allow you to flip the mattress as needed will do the trick.
With the water drained the next step is to locate the leak. Apply a bit of pressure and look for where the leak is. You should have no problem getting to the source.
We found the leak and now we will repair it. If it is only a pinhole, dry it off and apply a coat of rubber cement over the pinhole. After thirty or forty minutes it should be dry enough to have sealed the leak. Go ahead and refill the mattress.
Now, if your leak is bigger than a pinhole we will make a patch to cover and re-seal the mattress. Using a pair of scissors, cut
a patch from a bicycle inner tube that covers the hole. Make sure you overlap by at least a quarter of an inch all the way around. Brush on a coat of rubber cement directly on the mattress. Brush a coat on the patch. Let dry until tacky and put the patch over the hole. If you want, you can put a light coat of rubber cement over the entire repair.
Allow the patch to fully dry, refill the mattress, and sleep well.

Since all waterbed mattresses are made of vinyl and not rubber as author suggests, his method will not work at all. Use a waterbed or vinyl repair kit from a waterbed or swimming pool retailer. Cut vinyl circles out of the patch material, squares tend to lift at corners. Clean with rubbing alcohol first to remove body oil.
