How to Fix a Missing Cd or Dvd Drive in Windows

If you are having trouble with your CD or DVD drive is missing in windows just follow these steps and it should be working correctly again.

Things You Will Need

  • Windows
  • CD/DVD drive
  • Patience

Step 1
  1. Click on start and then run.

  2. Type regedit into the run box then click ok. If you have vista type regedit into the search box and then press enter on the keyboard.

Step 2
  1. Press the plus sign next to the following items
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SYSTEM
    CurrentControlSet
    Control
    Class

  2. Click on the {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key


Step 3 Click on upper filters and delete them

Then do the same if you have lower filters listed


Step 4 Restart your computer and the machine will then reload the drivers for your CD or DVD drive. If the problem is still after this go through again checking both the following registry keys.

Delete both the upper and lower filters again.
If the problem persists after wards it is time for a repair.
