How to Get Great Volume In Your Hair
Sometimes you want your hair to be smooth and tame, but let's be honest: most of us want some volume and movement. We just don't want to backcomb our hair into a beehive every day to get it. You'll be happy to know that there are other ways to get the hair you want.
- Don't wash your hair every day. Leaving in the natural oils tends to allow hair to have more volume. If you can't handle waiting a day to wash your hair, use volumizing hair shampoos and conditioners to help amp things up.
- Apply mousse or hair spray to the roots of your hair while it's still damp. Work it in thoroughly, gently pull up on your hair as you do. Don't worry if it doesn't stay up - just use this as a base to work with.
- Flip your hair upside down and dry it while you massage your scalp. If your hair is curly, scrunch it while you do this. If your hair is straight, flip your hair back down while it's still a little damp, and use a round brush to dry the rest of your hair. Use the brush to lift your hair and dry the roots directly from underneath.
- After styling it the way you like, flip it upside down again and spray light hair spray underneath. Flip it back up and adjust any messes on top.
- If your hair is short, most steps are the same, but don't bother to dry your hair upside down. Instead, just use a hair brush to dry your hair, and consider drying your hair with your part on the wrong side for more volume.
- Try using style wax or pomade to give your hair extra texture on the ends. Finish everything off my spraying a little hair spray under the top layer of your hair to keep your hair looking full.
