How to Get Low Cost Car Insurance

By Edited Nov 14, 2013 0 2

Traffic collisions happen every day, and insurance is the only way to make sure that you will be taken care of in the event. However, when money is tight and budgets need to be tightened, decisions have to be made about what to omit. The cost of quality insurance can often seem to outweigh the potential benefits, particularly if you have not been in a collision for a long time. Rather than eliminating the insurance completely and hoping for the best, finding low cost car insurance would be the safer path to take in the long run.

Things You Will Need

A Vehicle
Valid Driver's License

Step 1

Get low cost car insurance quotes from multiple providers. As with any shopping, sometimes the easiest and most effective way of saving money is simply to shop around for the best price. What one provider assures you is the lowest they can possibly go may not be the case for another.

Step 2

Find out if your provider offers any discounts that you qualify for. Passive restraints, a clean driving record, being of a certain age, and more may bring down the price of your low cost car insurance quite a bit.

Step 3

Improve your credit rating to bring down your cost even further. Not many people know this, but insurance carriers will look at your credit rating when they make out your quote. Providers consider those with low credit ratings as being less likely to pay their bills, so they price their insurance higher in order to cover the risk.

Step 4

Consolidate as many of your insurance policies as you can to a single provider. Most carriers will provide discounts and low cost car insurance to customers who have other policies with them.

Step 5

Determine just how much coverage you really need. If the car is old and the replacement cost is low, you may want to take a more basic package in order to save money. You will want to make sure that you don't skimp on the medical or uninsured motorist portions, however.

Tips & Warnings

Low cost car insurance can be made even more expensive by having a higher deductible or by omitting various forms of coverage, but be careful to not eliminate too much. You want to be covered in the event of a collision.

Always research the company offering you low cost car insurance before you actually commit. Make sure that they are a reputable company and do not have a large number of complaints against them for failure to honor claims.
