Drink hot beverages, such as tea. The steam from these beverages helps you get rid of chest congestion in the same way as the shower. Deeply breathe in the steam before each sip.
Create a “steam mask.” An alternative to over the counter cold medicine is to try microwaving a cup of water for a minute. Dip a facecloth into the hot liquid. Test the temperature by placing it beside your hand, and if it feels as though you can stand it, gently touch the wet cloth. Use caution so you don’t burn yourself as you’re learning how to get rid of chest congestion. If you need the water to be hotter, microwave for an additional 15 seconds.
