Dry skin on hands can be embarrassing as well as uncomfortable. It makes your hands look much older than they are, and can become so dry they crack at the knuckles when you clench your fingers.
Shaking hands with someone can be painful and embarrassing too with the dry rough skin, you tend to feel like a lizard, or least that is how I would feel and would always hide my hands in my pockets or behind my back or wear long shirts and sweaters that would cover my hands.
There are many great skin lotions on the market that help but they would not last long, so I found a great way to battle this problem and hopefully it will work for you too.
The only thing you will need to buy is a pair of light weight cotton gloves. Something that fits well but not tight, you can usually get them in department stores and many drug stores.
You most likely already have a good heavy duty hand lotion, but if not, make sure to purchase a heavier one, or even use good old Vaseline as I have found this to work well too. Another brand is Keri lotion. They used this in the hospital on my hubby’s skin grafts when they were healing so I figured it was a good product, but use whatever you prefer.
Take a Night for Yourself
Use this as a “me” night and have a shower or bath, light a few candles and really relax and take time for yourself. I had read a report once that stated stress can trigger dry skin issues too.
Once you have finished your bath or shower routine, and are ready for bed. Take your lotion and slather it on your hands and your nails and the nail beds as they tend to get dry too. Put it on quite thick. Make sure you have the cotton gloves ready so as not to spread your lotion everywhere.
Put on the gloves, you may need help with this if you have very greasy hands, but you can do it yourself.
Now put a couple of drops of lavender oil on your pillow case and then go to peaceful sleep.

After you wake up, peel your cotton gloves off, and you will be amazed at how smooth your hands will feel.
Keep doing this process as part of your nightly routine until the dry skin on hands is getting softer. You may just continue with this routine, in which case you should get lots of extra pairs of cotton gloves. You can throw them in the washing machine and be ready for the next use.
Dry Skin on Feet
You can also use this same process to help with dry and cracked heels. Simply use cotton socks and wear them to bed and let your skin absorb all the lotion while you sleep.
If you really want to treat yourself to a spa night, then do this treatment to both your hands and your feet. Put the lotion on your feet after they have soaked in a bath and then the socks, then work on your hands.
Feel Great with Soft Hands
You will feel great for the well-deserved attention your skin will get. No more lizzard hands and then treat yourself to a manicure and feel good about your hands.
