How to Get Staked To Play Tournaments On Online Poker Sites

By | May 25, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 1

The widespread distribution of televised gambling events (such as the World Poker Tour, the World Series of Poker, High Stakes Poker, and Poker After Dark), thousands of new Texas Hold 'Em players are joining online poker websites in an effort to see if they have what it takes to win life-changing money. The problem they soon face is the buy-in cost of each online poker tournament. Because it takes a combination of skill, good luck and well-timed aggression, even the best online poker tournament players can only reach the final table around 10% of the time, and that is if they are "running good." However, there are now several websites that will, if you are good enough, offer to stake you by paying your entry fee in exchange for a split of the profits.

Things You Will Need

Desire to play in online poker tournaments.

Step 1

Join online poker sites. There are many to choose from: Poker Stars, Full Tilt Poker, etc. However, do not sign up directly with those online poker sites. The reason is simple. Every time you play a hand of poker, the "house" takes a portion of the pot called the "rake." Instead, you want to sign up with a website that pays you back a portion of the "rake" to improve your overall return on investment.

Step 2

Before you join any online poker sites, sign up at Rake The Rake. It is inevitable that when you play poker online, you will get raked in most of your hands. However, if you have a good rake back deal in place, you can get back a good sized portion of that rake.

Step 3

Decide which online poker sites you want to join. Once you have signed up at Rake The Rake, you will have access to a ton of good "first deposit" deals. For example, when I signed up for Poker Stars, I was entitled to a bonus of 50% of my first deposit upon completion of certain thresholds that they have in place to insure I would not deposit money, get the deposit bonus, and immediately cash out it out.

Step 4

Start playing in online poker tournaments. The prize money varies greatly depending on the gambling website you have joined and the amount of money you are willing to buy-in for. However, if you are just starting out, I would suggest you play in the $4.40 No Limit Texas Hold 'Em tournaments with 180 players. The first place prize money usually exceeds $200 and they usually pay the top 18 places. Obviously, the higher you place, the more money you win.

Step 5

As you play on online poker sites, keep track of your tournament statistics. I use http://www.officialpokerrankings.com to keep track of my own stats. However, two other websites that offer this service are http://www.bluffmagazine.com and http://www.sharkscope.com. Any of these websites will permit you to readily provide your success-rates to a potential backer.

Step 6

Once you start experiencing success the online poker sites (i.e., reaching final tables approximately 10% of the time), it is easy to find gambling websites that will stake you. Try http://www.westakeyou.com, http://www.stakeashark.com, or http://www.pokerstaking.com. Each of these online poker sites offers a variety of staking deals so make sure you pick the one that best suits your needs.

If done right, getting staked to play in an online poker tournament provides a great opportunity for the player as well as backer. Good luck!
