Things You Will Need
- Craigslist dot com is a great website that is organized by city and state. People post things they have for sale on the website and you can search by category or keyword. I have saved hundreds of dollars by shopping there and not retail. For example, there was a video game that I wanted and found it at GameStop for $40. I looked online that same day and found it for $20. I texted the seller to meet and within an hour I had my game at half the price.
- Yard sales are another great way to save money and get what you want. The best time to go to yard sales is Saturday mornings. Some are available on Friday and Sunday mornings, but Saturdays are best. You could just drive around neighborhoods you know or buy a newspaper and plan your route. You can find anything from furniture, toys, clothes, to collectibles and art. The benefit of yard sales is that the seller is not in it to make a profit; they are really just trying to get rid of stuff. This means big savings for you!
- eBay is another website that will have almost everything you need when you need it. It is an auction site that works best with a PayPal account. People list their items on the site and people bid on it for a certain period of time, usually a week. The winner then pays and the product gets shipped to them, or local pickup is available too. I use eBay when I need a specific item fast. Shipping can be expensive, but I usually buy books and that usually has a flat shipping rate.
- The classifieds in the newspaper are still a good way to find what you want or need. Many people are still untrusting or unknowing of the internet and prefer to do business the old simple way. They are listed by categories and can usually be reliable since you are dealing with a person face-to-face.
These are just a few ways that you can shop for the things you want and save money as well as time. As I collect more ways to save money while shopping, I will post another article. Thanks for reading!
