How to Grow and Propagate Tansy

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Tansy is a perennial herb that is often viewed as a nuisance weed because of its ability to readily self sow. When controlled, Tansy is a nice addition to the home garden and the button shaped yellow flowers look nice in cut flower arrangements.

Things You Will Need

Tansy
Garden gloves
Garden spade
Garden stakes
Garden hose
Organic or general purpose fertilizer

Plant Tansy in full sun to partial shade. It grows well in poor to average soil but compostt can be added to poor soil for better growth and health in Tansy. Plant where wind will not carry seed resulting in unwanted Tansy patches.

Direct sow Tansy seed and cover lightly with soil. Keep soil moist until seeds germinate. Tansy should be planted 2 - 4 feet apart from each other as this plant can reach up to 4 feet high and wide. It may need to be staked for support.

Fertilize Tansy once a month with an organic or general purpose fertilizer. While it is drought resistant, it prefers slightly dry to barely moist soil.

Propagate Tansy by direct sowing seed or by root ball division once it is an established plant. Tansy can also be started indoors 6 weeks before the final frost is expected.
