How to Guide Childrens Behavior
Although most parent struggle with guiding a child's behavior, they know its an important responsibility. Parental guidance makes a major difference in whether or not children grow up to be happy, well adjusted people. Here are some ways to guide children effectively.
Build Trust
Maintain a routine to help children feel secure. Meet children's needs so they know that they can rely on others. Respond to their needs in a loving way so that they can count on you, no matter what.
Accentuate the positive
Look for opportunities to give sincere compliments. Comment when children show positive behaviors such as patience, cooperation, kidness, and cheerfulness.
Build Empathy
Talking about feelings makes children more sensitive to others. Even preschoolers can understand that other children have feelings too.
Respect fears and feelings
Guide childrens behavior by offering respect and reassurance. Even if fears are groundless, take children's feelings seriously. Be willing to listen and offer support.
Teach actions and consequences
Use everyday situations to show that each action has a consequence. Explain that if children angrily throw a toy, and it breaks, it wont be replaced. Soon they will start to avoid actions that result in negative consequences.
Encourage Responsibility
Assign a daily job. Doing a chore well helps children to develop pride in themselves and contribute to the family.
Guide by example
Be positive ,helpful, and caring to encourage good behavior. Model ways to treat siblings, friends, neighbors ,and relatives with kidness and respect.
Reassurance
Bedtime can bring fears. Some children are afraid of the dark, while others think there is a monster under the bed.
