How to Increase Your Chances of Winning the Lottery

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

We all dream of winning the lottery. Most of us realize that the odds are really stacked against us. There are, however, certain steps that you can take to increase your odds of winning the lottery without buying any extra tickets than you normally would.

Things You Will Need

Patience and resolve

Step 1

Before we begin you will need to realize that increasing your odds of winning the lottery does just that. The odds increase, it does not guarantee a win. With this in mind proceed to the next step.

Step 2

Now you should pick the right game to play. You should choose the right game by analyzing the odds of winning and the payout of the jackpot. This is called the expected value of the lottery. Expected value assigns a number value to the lottery (this usually starts at .5 and goes up) based on all of the payouts and odds of those payouts.

Step 3

Avoid the big multi-state lotteries. Although they look appealing and may have a good expected value, you should avoid them because their odds of winning are horrible. They can be as bad as 1 in 200 million so even if you were to cut the odds in half, they would still only be 1 in 100 million.

Step 4

Set up a lottery budget. A lottery budget is based on how much you usually spend on the lottery each week. Instead of buying tickets every week, you should wait until the lottery hits a high enough jackpot and has a large enough expected value.

Step 5

Here is where your odds increase. Once the lottery jackpot hits a high enough amount, you should spend all of your lottery saving from you lottery budget on the current jackpot. This effectively increases your odds of winning by a multiple of however many tickets you bought. If you were to buy 50 tickets and the odds of winning that particular lottery is 1 in 10 million, your new odds of winning are 1 in 200,000.
By saving your money and playing when the jackpot dictates, you will be able to effectively increase your chances of winning the lottery. The hard part about this is sticking to your budget and dealing with the loss of a great sum of money when you play. Most people don't have the conviction to stick with this method.

Tips & Warnings

Try and stick to the budget. Any budget is worthless if you deviate from it.
