How to Learn the Computer Basics

It's not always easy learning how to use a computer. In fact, most people struggle with the functions on a computer because they can become so complex. Before you get carried away or confused trying to teach yourself the basics of a computer, check here. This little article has all the computer basics you need, and will give you just enough information to get on your computer and perform a few simple tasks.

Getting around The Start Menu - The first thing about computer basics, on the lowermost left hand corner of the screen you can see the start menu. Left clicking the start icon brings up the start menu. The start menu holds your most popular programs. In windows vista you can search for any program you want using the search feature in the start menu.

Typing on the computer - Typing allows you to move on and learn more about the computer. To test out the search feature, search for word and click word . Once you're in a word program, you can type and save something. You can save what you type, and continue later, or print it if you want.

The computer Desktop - The main computer screen, known as the desktop is the screen you see when you load up the computer. The background you have, the icons you see, and the overall display make up the desktop. The icons on the desktop are shortcuts that allow you to view or pick start up programs. While were learning computer basics, you can create a shortcut to anything that will then be on the desktop. Make a shortcut by right clicking on a program, and then choose create shortcut. Left click and pull the shortcut to the computer desktop.

My Computer - The my computer option is all-important for learning about computer basics. Double click on the my computer icon on the computer desktop. This will allow you to see everything that is linked to your computer. You can view the hard drives and the files that are contained in them.

Try to practice a bit with the computer basics you have learned. It's not going to become any easier as time goes on to remember everything, you need to practice using a comptuer to remember the steps and get better at it. Learn the computer basics and then practice a few times a week to really hone your computer skills.
